Notes:

(1) Residence hall statistics are a subset of the total on campus incidents.
(2) Noncampus property includes: Village Commons property, the Outing Club Cabin, Mary Lyon's Birthplace in Buckland, MA; and the College-owned boathouse on the Connecticut River.
(3) Public Property is the area immediately surrounding college property; statistics are provided from the town with jurisdiction in those areas.
(4) Sexual assault statistics include Third Party and anonymous reports.
(5) Bias incidents reportable under the Clery Act include all Clery-act crime categories in which a bias motivation is identified. In 2008, the law was expanded requiring reporting of any of the following crimes in which there is bias motivation: larceny (theft), simple assault, intimidation, vandalism and other crimes involving bodily injury.

Federal Law Bias Incidents

Beginning in 2000, campus police departments are required to report any crimes in the categories above that included any bias toward the victim’s race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability.  Note that other bias incidents reported to the Department not in these crime categories will be listed elsewhere in this report. Beginning in 2008, campus police departments must include in hate crime reporting the following additional categories of crimes if they have a bias component: larceny (theft), simple assault, intimidation, vandalism and other crimes involving bodily injury.

Since 2000, there have been no incidents listed in the above categories that had a bias component in on residence halls and other on-campus areas, in non-campus property or local private property.
