Paul Ominsky
Director of Public Safety

The Department is led by Paul Ominsky. Director Ominsky joined the Mount Holyoke College staff in September of 1992 and since then has implemented many Community Policing initiatives, including Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), the Community and Public Service Officer program in which students work with the Public Safety staff to patrol the campus and serve the community, and the Bicycle Patrol program where Officers, Public Service Officers and Community Service Officers patrol the campus on mountain bikes. Paul has a B.S. and an M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts. Paul has over 30 years of Public Safety experience and has worked at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and at Westfield State College. During his years at Mount Holyoke, Paul instituted the student Emergency Medical Technician program and the College's fleet program, as well as adding the Fatal Vision program which aides in teaching awareness of the dangers driving drunk.

Paul is an adjunct faculty at Holyoke Community College where he teaches criminal justice courses and is the past president of the Massachusetts Association of College and University Public Safety Directors.Currently, Paul is the North Atlantic Director of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administratorsrepresenting the New England states. Paul also manages the Smith College Department of Public Safety.

Barbara Arrighi
Associate Director

Associate Director Barbara Arrighi has been with the College since 1974. In addition to her duties leading the Public Safety Department, Barbara teaches self defense on campus and is the head instructor for the college's Karate Club. In 1994 Barbara began teaching Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) as part of her self defense curriculum, which has been very well received by the Mount Holyoke College community. The MHC RAD team consists of Kellie Cournoyer-Cronk, Jeff Baeder, Frank Rogala, Megan Smith and Theresa Ryan. Barbara is a 7th Degree black belt in the Shito Ryu International Karate Do Kai (click on the link to Shihan Kai and you will find her!) - the highest ranking woman in her style in the world! See more about Barbara and the campus Karate Club. Barbara is a staff member for RAD and helped develop their keychain defense program. Barbara has a daughter and lives in Northampton. Among other interests she enjoyes are opera, Broadway shows, Red Sox, sailing, bike riding and sculling.

Raymond LaBarre
Assistant Director

Assistant Director Raymond LaBarre started with the Mount Holyoke department in 1985, and is the senior officer. Ray is the department's chief investigator, and works in conjunction with other staff members to investigate incidents occurring on the campus. Ray is also certified as a DARE officer and has worked with the students at the Gorse Child Study Center teaching them about safety. Ray was promoted to Sergeant in the summer of 2000. Ray was promoted to Lieutenant in 2004. Ray was promoted to Assistant Director in 2008 and oversees our Hampshire office.

Elizabeth Cahn joined our department in 2007 as a Planning and Community Outreach Coordinator and now provides these services for Mount Holyoke and Hampshire Colleges.

 

 

 

Bryan Roman
Lieutenant

Lieutenant Bryan Roman joined us in 1990. He is a certified Bicycle Patrol Officer. Bryan received a Bachelor of Science degree from Westfield State College in 1989. Bryan was certified as a Bicycle Patrol Instructor in 2000, and coordinates our bicycle patrol program. Bryan was promoted in February of 2001 to Sergeant. He has over 19 years of experience in college and municipal law enforcement. Bryan was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and now oversees patrol and dispatch operations for both the Mount Holyoke and Hampshire departments.

Jeanne Murdock Tripp
Senior Administrative Assistant

Jeanne Murdock Tripp has been our Senior Administrative Assistant since 1992. Before then, she worked as an on-call Auxiliary and Reserve Officer. She has strong ties with Mount Holyoke College, being a member of the MHC class of 1990. Jeanne designed and maintains the Public Safety web site, and is always looking for suggestions on how to improve the site. In 2008 with our merger with Hampshire College's Public Safety department, Jeanne was promoted to Manager of Administrative Operations. Jeanne sings with the Springfield Symphony Chorus in Springfield MA.

Janice Nielsen has worked for Hampshire's public safety office since 1988. Janice oversees administrative functions for our Hampshire office, and oversees the combined department budget.

Josh Dufresne
Sergeant

Sergeant Josh Dufresne joined the Department in 1999.  Josh has worked his way up the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant in the summer of 2005. Josh graduated from the Reserve Intermittent Police Academy in Agawam, MA in 1999 and the Special State Police Officer academy Class #12 in 2002. He has received his A.S. and B.S. in Criminal Justice. He has over nine years of experience in both college and municipal law enforcement. Josh is currently the second shift (3 pm - 11 pm) supervisor.

Tom Robert
Sergeant

Tom Robert joined our team as a part time bus driver and reserve officer in 2000. Since then, Tom was promoted to coordinate our bus service and as a part time Public Safety Officer. Tom came to Mount Holyoke with many years of experience in both fields and has been a very flexible asset to the department. Tom holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts, and he attended the State Police Municipal Recruit Academy. Tom was promoted to full time Sergeant in 2008.

Brad Fink
Sergeant

Sergeant Brad Fink began his work as a sergeant on Hampshire's campus in 2006. Brad currently oversees the second shift.

Jeff Wojcik

Sergeant Jeff Wojcik started with the Mount Holyoke campus as a Public Service Officer and was promoted to Officer.  In 2008 Jeff was promoted to sergeant and supervised the third shift at Hampshire College.  Recently SGT. Wojcik has returned to Mount Holyoke and oversees third shift (11 pm - 7 am).

Amanda Florek

Amanda Florek started in our department as a Community Service Officer in the spring of 1998, was promoted to a Public Service Officer in the fall of 1998, and then served as a student assistant to the administrative office. In April 2001 Amanda was hired to manage the Fleet Office. In 2008, Amanda was promoted to Administrative Assistant for the department in addition to her duties as the Fleet Coordinator.

Charlyn Puza
Parking Coordinator

Charlyn Puza joined our department in November 2005. Charlyn comes to us with a great deal of administrative, business and customer service skills. Charlyn coordinates the Parking Office in Public Safety.

When asked to describe herself for our web audience, Charlyn gave us the following: "She stands a stately 5'9" tall, and weighs in at 129 lbs. Her favorite pastimes are working out and competing in triathlons. She is noted for her gourmet cooking skills and lovely singing voice. She is the founder of Mensa." We love Charlyn!

Kevin Fournier
Detective

Detective Kevin Fournier has been with the Public Safety Department since 1993. He has worked as a Reserve Officer, and was promoted to full time dispatcher then to officer. Kevin has been a member of the Department's Weekend Patrol, working special events and patrol during the school year. In 1999 he was promoted to a senior patrol officer. Kevin is also a department instructor in several areas of police work. He instructs courses for faculty, staff and students in CPR, Basic and Advanced First Aid. Additionally, Kevin is responsible for the Public Safety Defibrillator Program and for the college's student Medical Emergency Response Team. Kevin was assigned to investigations full time in 2008 supporting both the Mount Holyoke and Hampshire campuses.

Senior Officer

Senior Officer Frank Allen joined our department in August of 1999. Frank has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and has background in several areas including security, safety and law enforcement. Frank oversees the department's Field Training program.

Senior Officer Kellie Cournoyer-Cronk joined the department in the fall of 1999 with municipal law enforcement experience.

Senior Officer

After working with us for many years as a reserve officer and a member of the "Party Patrol," Senior Officer Frank Rogala joined the department full time in March of 2001. He brings with him extensive experience in the law enforcement field.

Jeff Baeder
Senior Officer

Senior Officer Jeff Baeder was hired in May of 2001 as a dispatcher. He was a senior airman in the 103rd Security Forces Squadron where he gained experience in law enforcement as well as air base ground defense. He completed the Special State Police Academy and was promoted to full-time officer in 2002.

James Broussard
Senior Officer

Senior Officer James Broussard joined the department as a full time dispatcher in 2001. In 2002 he completed the police academy as well as an associates degree in law enforcement and was employed as a reserve officer in addition to his full-time dispatching duties. James was promoted to full time officer in the summer of 2005.

Officer Juan Rivera joined our department in August, 2006 as a full-time Public Service Officer. In 2007, Juan attended the State Police Academy and was promoted to a full time Public Safety Officer.

Officer Theresa Ryan joined our department in early 2007 as a full time Public Service Officer. She was recently promoted to full time Public Safety Officer.

Megan Smith
Officer

Officer Megan Smith joined our department in 2007 as a full time Public Service Officer. Megan was a Corporal in the US Army Military Police Corp where she earned her diploma from the Military Police Academy. Megan was deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom. She is currently serving in the US Coast Guard Reserves as a Port Security Specialist Third Class. Prior to her work with the US Coast Guard, Megan worked in Armed Security at Department of Homeland Security Headquarters. Megan was promoted to full time Public Safety Officer in March 2008.

Dispatcher Michelle Papineau joined our department as a dispatcher in May of 2001.  In 1999 Michelle completed the Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy and is dispatching full time.

Dispatcher Jane Provost joined our dispatch team in October of 2002. In addition to her dispatch work at Mount Holyoke, Jane is also a social worker and has enjoyed a career inclusive of case management, supervisioun and administrative roles and responsibiliities. Jane enjoys golf and reading, and is a very avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Doug Keller
Dispatcher

Dispatcher Doug Keller joined our department early in 2006. Doug comes to us with many years of experience in logistics and office management. His experience has been in diverse work environments such as aerospace, defense, air freight, computers, construction and travel. He also received formal training in operating tour buses and tractor trailers. During his eight years in the United States Air Force, he held supervisory positions in K-9, law enforcement and security fields, and also served as a military drill instructor for new recruits in basic training. In 2008 Doug took on responsibility for overseeing the department's bus services in addition to his role in dispatch.

Dispatcher Averi Luscomb began with our department in 2006 as a part-time on-call dispatcher. Averi completed the Massachusetts Criminial Justice Training Council Reserve and Intermittent police academy in 2007 and is also a RAD instructor for the department. Currently, she is both a Public Service officer and a dispatcher both at Hampshire and Mount Holyoke.
