I believe in the deep connection between spirituality and education. A person's mind is enlightened by faith and gains determination through seeking support from God. On the other end - any religion can lose its vitality if practiced without knowledge and understanding.

In God's willing, the community of Mount Holyoke College will continue to enhance its multifaith activities. I also pray and hope that the Muslim group of Mount Holyoke will contribute to the effort by putting forward initiatives and by staying open to discussions. As for now, the Muslim sisterhood is blessed with the opportunity to perform the daily prayers in its own prayer room and to gather in the Eliot House for the Friday prayer and Jummah lunches. In the works are several projects on improving our own knowledge of Islam (the Quran reading sessions, intro faith discussions, etc.), and also on sharing the essence of Islam with the college community (inviting non-Muslims to our gatherings, putting together the educational fliers, etc.).

I'm trying to incorporate my experience as a former college teacher (Languages and Literature) and my involvement with the Hampshire Mosque of Amherst to achieve the balanced environment for learning within the Muslim faith group and for clarifying the misconceptions about Islam to benefit the college community.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with our group. You're welcome to visit our page and any of our gatherings.

May God reward you!
