Presenter Bios
Liz Braun is the Dean of Students and one of the most visible members of our Mount Holyoke community.  A graduate of Mary Washington College, she earned an M.A, in English literature at Boston University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Education at the University of Massachusetts.  She joined the college in 1999 as director of Residential Life and became Dean of Students in 2004.
 
Lois Brown is director of the Weissman Center and a professor in the English department. Since the spring of 2005, when she began her tenure at the center, she has focused on building a leadership curriculum and sustaining the strong tradition of public programming.  A graduate of Duke University and Boston College, she blends her administrative work with research, writing and teaching interests in American literature, culture, and history.
 
Beth Gibney-Boulden is the associate director of student programs.  She works closely with student organizations and led two student groups to Dubai and to Rome where they hosted student leadership training workshops for students at the Dubai Women's College and Collegio Porta Nevia.  At Springfield College. Gibney-Boulden earned a B.Sc in psychology and an M.A. in education and counseling with a concentration in student personnel administration.
 
Laura Greenfield joined Mount Holyoke in September 2007 as the coordinator of the Speaking, Arguing, and Writing Program.  At The George Washington University, she earned a Ph.D. in English and completed a dissertation on the ethics of teaching standardized English. She oversees the SAW program and its student staff of approximately 30 student assistants and mentors who work closely with faculty in courses and conduct peer mentoring sessions with students in the SAW center.
 
Chris Haigh is an independent educational consultant specializing in diversity training and teambuilding facilitation.  Her clients include Outward Bound Professional, Outward Bound Thompson Island, Project Adventure, GLSEN Boston, and numerous schools and colleges throughout Massachusetts.  She graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2005 with a Masters in Education degree focusing on Social Justice.  She also has worked for a number of years in the nonprofit sector with organizations such as City Year, Exploration, and SpeakOut, where she was able to work with young adults on service learning, social justice, and leadership development.

Ali Lynch '08 is a politics major and psychology minor from Peterborough, New Hampshire whose academic work reflects her interests in pre-law and neuroscience.  A student staff member of the Speaking, Arguing, and Writing Program, she also is affiliated with the Student Government Association, theTrack and Field team, and Diversions A Capella group for which she also serves as business manager.  
 
Janet Lansberry is the assistant director of the Weissman Center.  A graduate of Simmons College, she has extensive experience working with  nonprofit organizations and funding organizations.  A keen and eloquent activist, she is committed to social justice and is interested in women's leadership, local community politics, and  education reform.
 
Linda Melconian '70 is the Majority Leader Emerita of the Massachusetts State Senate and is the first woman ever to serve as the Massachusetts Senate’s Majority Leader.  A cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke, she earned an MA from the George Washington University and a J.D. degree from George Mason University.  Her extensive political and legal career that has spanned more than two decades also includes a post as the Assistant Counsel to House Speaker Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill, Jr.  She currently is on the faculty of the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University in Boston.

Tara Karr '01  majored in Education while at Mount Holyoke and has become a veteran teacher.  Currently teaching preschool at the Gorse Child Development Center at Mount Holyoke, she also has taught elementary school and kindergarten in Washington, D. C. and in Virginia.
 
Krysia Villon '96 is the Assistant Director of Clubs with the Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College. Since earning her degree, she has become a published writer and her poetry and writings have been published in various literary journals, magazines, and anthologies. She joined the college in 2001 and has served as co-advisor for La Unidad and Familia.  During her MHC years, she was a member of La Unidad and one of the founding members of SYSTA, the organization now known as Familia.
 
Katie Kraschel '06 was Student Government president in 2005 - 2006, graduated with high honors cum laude as a biochemistry major, and was co-captain of the soccer team for two of her four years on the team.  A native of Clear Lake, Iowa, she now lives in Mystic, Connecticut and works as an associate scientist in pharmacokinetics dynamics and metabolism group in the diabetes therapeutic area at  Pfizer Global Research and Design in Groton, CT. Katie is an active member of the Episcopal church and Love Makes a Family--the advocacy group for gay/lesbian couples in Connecticut.
 
Simar Singh '06 is the Program Specialist for the Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict, a global network of NGOs that strives to end violations against children in armed conflicts and to guarantee their rights. As part of her work she assists with report development, country research, fundraising, advocacy, as well as supervising Watchlist interns and volunteers. A native of India who also is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna cum Laude with a degree in International Relations.
