Building Capacity and Confidence: Financial Planning for MHC Students
Facilitator: Eleanor Blayney ‘73

MHC students and graduates face some new and tough financial realities. Many probably begin post-MHC life with considerably more debt, in the form of education loans and credit card balances, and face the prospect of an economic depression far more severe than anything experienced by their baby-boomer parents. This session will look at the challenges faced by young women who are determined to be financially independent and smart, but who have doubts about where to begin or who can help them. We will consider the ways financial planning needs to be different, both in content and delivery, for women, and explore the attitudes, beliefs, and expectations that young women have about the role of money in their lives.

The Gender Box
Facilitator: Chris Haigh

We live in a very strict gender prescribed world where we are all expected to fit into a gender box, but for many of us this is limiting. In this engaging workshop, we will start with a dialogue about what it means to fit into these prescribed boxes, followed by examining what happens when you fall out of them. This workshop will enable us as leaders to become more aware of our language and perspectives about gender that will help us to create a more inclusive community on campus and beyond. Come prepared to offer your ideas to this discussion as this workshop relies on your input.

Taking Charge, Making Changes: Schedules, Goals, and Success
Facilitator: Christine Overstreet FP ‘06

To be an effective leader, you must first know how to take charge of your own life. In this workshop we will consider how to set goals, establish priorities, and order schedules so that you accomplish what you want and become who you wish to be.

Student Organizations and Leadership in the "Real World"

How you experience Leadership outside of Mount Holyoke College may be different, but the skills you learn and practice are the same. College Student Organizations often reflect a microcosm of group dynamics, governance structures, varying leadership styles, legacies, and conflict mediation; skills essential for positive leadership. Come learn and reflect on your own leadership in student organizational settings, and make plans to transfer this knowledge beyond MHC!

Do You See What I See? Communicating Vision and Agenda
Facilitator: Christine Overstreet FP ‘06

You know where you want to go and what you want to accomplish, but you need a team to help you get there. How do you articulate a vision? How do you help your team to understand the mission and be able to communicate it to others? In this workshop we will explore how developing mission statements, talking points, and communication guidelines can help you shape the message of your initiative.

It Takes a Village: Leadership, Global Health, and Social Change

Well, think again…This workshop offers approaches and skills to fight for a healthier and more equitable world. Whether you are from a science, social science, humanities, or arts background, you can make a difference.  Through leadership training using a global health model, you will discover how you can be an agent of change.

Your Words, Your Wisdom: A Roundtable Conversation on Leadership
Facilitator: Erna Wilson FP’10

Clarify your individual leadership style and find your special leadership mantra that you can apply each and every day.  This workshop will help you discover your inner-personal guide to stay balanced and make the right leadership decisions regardless of inner or outer interference.

Inclusive Leadership
Facilitator: Chris Haigh

This interactive session for all conference participants focuses on “Inclusive Leadership” and is meant to serve as an introduction to understanding diversity and its connection to us as leaders.  We will think together about what an ideal inclusive environment is, and then learn the 5 skills of Inclusive Leadership that will help us to get there.  These skills are a toolkit for you to apply to your communities on campus and to your future professional life that will benefit you for years to come.  If you are a leader who wants to get the most out of everyone and yourself in building truly inclusive communities, then this highly engaging workshop is for you.  Come prepared to move around and engage in dialogue with each other as we learn new skills together.

Closing Ceremony
5:45 pm - 6:00 pm

All conference attendees are eligible for prizes that support their leadership development and celebrate their potential, accomplishments, and goals! Winners will be selected from those present at the closing ceremony.
