I am making this website for my World Politics class at Mount Holyoke College. Being partly Filipino, I was very interested, before this assignment, about the issue of terrorism in the Philippines. Identifying myself as simply American, I have been very distant from my true Filipino roots. However, as you will see in viewing my website, terrorism in the Philippines is a major issue that should be understood in order to gain a full understanding of the history of the Philippines and a better understanding of international terrorism. In my website, I will be looking into the history of Islam in the Philippines and how it is now concentrated in the south, the history of ownership of the Philippines by Spain, the United States, and Japan and how this plays into the social divisions and conflict within the Philippines that prevails to this very day, and I will be discussing the different terrorist groups in the Philippines. I hope this website serves to better inform you about how terrorist groups were brought about by the history of the Philippines in regards to Islam and the various occupations it has experienced throughout its history.
