Social and Politcal Hisotry of Aryan Sindh
Early Aryans lived in villages, known as Goths. Most lived in houses made of straw and dried leaves, though the wealthy had houses made of mud and clay. The Aryans had a system of leaders and governors. Each village had a Panchayit, consisting of five or more people, to act as a council and assist in times of need. For larger villages, i.e. villages with more than one street, a Gram Miny was appointed to oversee the looking after of streets, cleanliness, and security. Sometimes the Gram Miny would be in charge of multiple villages. When they cared for one hundred or more villages they were known as Shatpati. The post of Mukhiya, or a respected leader, was filled through elections. Kings later filled the position of Mukhiya. Disputes were brought to the Gram Mini, Mukhi, or the Panchayit, who summoned four other village members to consult for a verdict.
