The History of Sindh
Sindh, presently a province of Pakistan, covers an area of 58,000 square miles. It was part of undivided India until the Partition, when it voted to break off with Pakistan. The capital of Sindh is Karachi, which started as a small fishing village and trading post known as Kalachi-jo-Gothu, and became known as Karachi in the late 1700s, early 1800s.
The history of Sindh is difficult to trace, since there is not much documented history in English and the research that has been done has not necessarily been done by unbiased sources. Because of this, all dates are approximate. Also, the borders of Sindh have changed over the years; culturally, Sindh may refer to a larger area than borders currently dictate it as. In the past, Sindh was larger, including parts of modern-day India and Pakistan. Also, Pakistan did not exist until 1947. On this page, I have done my best to write the history of Sindh as objectively and as accurately as possible.
