Causes of Global Warming

Commonly, society attributes the raise in temperatures to the discharge of fossil fuels like oil, natural gas and coal. However, there are different theories that attempt to explain the increase.

Greenhouse Gas Theory

One theory is the greenhouse gas theory. It states that the warming of the earth is due to human activities like industry, running cars, burning wood, and other gas releasing behavior. Specifically the gas carbon dioxide has an effect on the climate. With no help, carbon dioxide will likely make the planet’s surface warmer. Although, by adding carbon dioxide to the regulate amount of water vapor, a very strong greenhouse gas, can have a huge effect on the climate.

Solar Variation Theory

The theory of solar variation is a speculation that gives the blame of the temperature increase to the difference in solar output. According to the IPCC TAR, “it was reported that volcanic and solar forcings could account for much of the temperature variations prior to 1950.” Still, meteorologists have remained doubtful of the theory because of the constant change and new information gained.

Other Theories

Other scientists have suggested that the warming is due to natural causes and is in range of what the planet can handle therefore there is no need for worry. Another is the increase is due to a previous cool period, known as the Little Ice Age. Finally, the temperature increase has not run its course fully yet and needs no analysis yet and consequently does not need to be explained as of yet.
