Office hours: Posted each week outside my office on the bulletin board. You can sign up on the sheet there for time. Homework: Homework will be assigned frequently, generally to be turned in by the following class (M, W morning for Section 01, T, Th morning for 02). You are encouraged to work together on these assignments, but your final writeups must be your own. You learn from each other, and homework is the appropriate place to work with others in the class. The grades that you get on the assignments are a way for me to keep track of your progress in the course, but they will NOT affect your course grade. What WILL affect your grade will be if you consistently fall behind in doing your homework. Evening help sessions: There will be help sessions on Sunday, Monday Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (7-10 pm) run by Math 202 department student assistants in rooms on the 4th floor of Clapp (probably 401 or 402). If it is meeting in a different room, the location should be on the board in 401/402. Please take advantage of these sessions as well as my office hours if you feel that you need help in the course. Tests, quizzes, and the final exam: There will be three tests (I, II, and III) plus a final exam. The lowest grade of tests I, II, and III will be dropped. Hence, there will be NO makeups on tests that you miss for any reason. A test missed will become the "lowest" grade and will be dropped. Tentative schedule: Please see the Classes/Assignments web page link on the left for your section (01 or 02). The final exam will be given during the examination period at the end of the semester--taken through the college's exam center. There will be some additional quizzes during the semester. Tests, quizzes, and the final exam are to be done by yourself without any help from other students, from books, or from notes (in strict observance of the honor system). Each of the top two of the tests (I, II, III) will count approximately 25% (accounting for 50% of the grade since one of the three tests will be dropped), the final exam approximately 35%, with the rest of the grade (15%) determined by quizzes and class participation. There will be a quiz on several Monday evening classes when we don't have an exam. There may be unannounced quizzes on other class periods. Our goal for the semester: In this course, we will look at the rich theory, practice, and application of intermediate calculus. There will be ideas from the text that we will not cover in class but for which you will be responsible, and there will be topics covered in class that are from sources other than the textbook--you're responsible for these also, when indicated. When an assignment is given, you are also responsible for reading the material in that section of the textbook (unless there are parts that are specified as not required). My office hours may change from week to week, and they will be announced in the link from my home page. I hope, and fully expect, that you will find this course to be a really enjoyable experience. Please keep in touch with me especially if you feel that you are falling behind or having difficulty with any of the concepts or problems. My office hours are excellent opportunities to ask about any topic in the course, and I shall do my best to help in any way I can. Bob Contact Information: | |||||||
