Background Information

The Devlopment, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) is a chance for undocumented students to achieve higher education while gaining the status in the United States. The DREAM Act of 2007 is a legislation made to amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). The IIRIRA has 6 broad section in which it addresses.[1]
The DREAM Act removes the section of the IIRIRA that discourages states from providing in-state tuition to undocumented students and allows them to gain permanent resident status. The DREAM Act was introduced as a bi-partisan legislation. It is sponsored in the Senate by Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois (D), Chuck Hagel from Nebraska (R) and Richard Lugar from Indiana (R). In the House, it is sponsored by Lincoln Diaz-Balart from Florida (R), Howard Berman from California (D) and Lucille Roybal-Allard from California (D).[2]
There has been ten states that allows illegal immigrants to recieve in-state tuition at public universities.This is the first step to helping out illegal immigrants who wants to continue their education.
