Water in the Palestinian Territories:
Polluted and Scarce
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is mentioned in the international news scope on an almost daily basis. Suicide bombings, extremist factions, the forceful Israeli military, bulldozing of homes, checkpoints and the wall (or Apartheid Wall as it is also known) are all seemingly enduring fixtures that compose the face of this conflict.
Yet, within all these contentions lies another beast. This monster is not broadcasted in the news or even necessarily associated with either Israel or Palestine but it nonetheless figures crucially in geopolitics worldwide. Like all the other problems associated with the Palestinian-Israeli situation, it threatens the essence of life. It is the severe degradation of water in the region.
Water sustains all forms of life. In the Palestinian territories, water is plagued by two issues in particular; the pollution of water and the scarcity/limited access to water. These two existing problems have deteriorated and endangered the lives and rights of the people living in this part of the globe.
