Who is Affected by FGM?

Women and young girls especially ages 4-8 are at risk.

Estimated 130 million girls worldwide have been genitally mutilated and about 2 million are at risk each year.

92 million girls 10 and under are expected to be circumcised in africa alone.

Most of the girls affected live in about 28 African countries. 12 of which, such as Sierra Leone, are estimated to circumcise 90% of thier women.

Not all Female Genital Mutilation takes place in just Africa. FGM occurs in the Middle East, Asia, Austrailia and immigrant populations of the United States.

It is estimated that 15% of all FGM cases have been the most severe type- infibulation
