ようこそ!Welcome!

This website explores the background of the
United States’ presence in Japan post-WWII and
discusses the effects on Japanese society.

United States Forces, Japan, supports U.S. forward
presence and ensures bilateral defense cooperation with
the Government of Japan to promote regional stability
and deter aggression. Should deterrence fail, USFJ
supports combat operations in the region and on order,
conducts combat operations to defend Japan.

The 1960 U.S.-Japan security treaty is as relevant today
as when it was signed and remains the linchpin for protection
of both our nations' vital interests. United States bases
in Japan are well-located for rapid deployment
to virtually any trouble spot in the region.
