Emile Lahoud was born in Beirut on January 12, 1936. Backed by Syria, he became Lebanon's 11th President on November 18, 1998. Although his term should have ended in November of 2004, Lebanon's Parliment recently amended their constitution to allow him to serve an additional three years.
