In 1981, I built a house in the woods. It has had two additions
since then. The design idea was to create a house which looked
and felt old but had straight walls, good insulation, and was
not about to fall down. I achieved the old feeling by using leaded
glass windows and carved wooden doors from the College. An alum
and friends helped me build the house. I've named it Dove Cottage as
the Brits do.
When I built the house we installed solar hot water and a 12 volt photovoltaic battery system. I'm now working with Co-op Power in Greenfield to install hot water systems for others. Working with a profesional we install a system in one day, rather like an old style barn raising. |
