Japanese Garden

Back to Outside Interests
While studying Aikido, I became interested in Japanese design and meditation. Japanese gardens combine the two. These are photographs of a Japanese garden I built at my home while Mount Holyoke College was building their meditation space. I got ideas from them and various books.

Several years later, I went to Japan to visit the gardens of Kyoto. I was happy to find that we had achieved the same feeling of peace and quiet in very similar ways. The photograph on my homepage is from the Moss Gardens in Kyoto.
