a nation without a
state
The Kurdish Question
Currently numbering over 26 million,
the Kurdish people are one of the largest nationalities in the
world without an independent homeland. Their traditional native
land spreads over the countries of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria.
The almost constant turmoil in this area of the world, in addition
to the internal struggles of the Kurdish people, has left approximately
1 out of every 8 as a refugee. A proposal for Kurdistan was in
place in the post WWI Treaty of Sevres, but was never mentioned
again after the policies of Sevres were replaced by the Treaty
of Lausanne. Ever since, the Kurdish people have been the victimized
minorities with virtually no political or ethnic representation.
