Muse Sudi Yalahow, a Mogadishu faction leader, will be attending the Somali reconciliation conference in Kenya next month. Yalahow is a ardent opponent to the Transitional National Government that has been established in Somalia. Yalahow has presented several provisions that must be reached before he would attend the conference. He openly stated that he would only attend the conference if there was a consensus that no central government exists in Somalia.
Since its inception in August 2000, the TNG has stated that they are the legitimate
and internationally recognized government and are willing to negotiate with
opposing factions. Faction leaders in opposition to the government argue that
the TNG is not a legitimate government and should not be treated any differently
than any other faction.
Although the reconciliation talks that are to take place next month are a move
in the right direction for Somalia the future for the country still remains
unsettled.
