Steps to Provisional Government


January 30, 2005 - Elections for Transitional National Assembly are held.

February 9, 2005 - The final results from the elections are postponed.

February 13, 2005 - The final election results are announced with delay from the Central Iraqi Electoral Commission. The United Iraqi Alliance captured 47,6% of the votes

February 17, 2005 - The Iraqi Electoral Commission announces the official results from the elections and how many seats in the Transitional National Assembly each winning group will take.

March 13, 2005 - The negotiations between the Shia and Kurd leaders on the formation of Provisional government end with no agreement.

March 16, 2005 - The Iraqi Transitional National Assembly has its first meeting.

March 18, 2005 - The leaders of the Shia and Kurdish groups in the government reach an agreement upon the members of the Executive branch of the new government.

March 23, 2005 - The Kurdish and Shia majorities in the government agree upon the ministry posts in the Provisional government

March 29, 2005 - The second meeting of the National Assembly ends without agreement on the post of Speaker of Parliament.
