April 3, 2005 - Hajim al-Hassani is appointed Speaker of Parliament

April 5, 2005 - Shia and Kurdish representatives announce that an agreement is reached about the nominations for President of Iraq and his two deputies.

April 6, 2005 - Jalal Talabani is selected by the Iraqi Parliament to be Iraq's Interim President. Ghazi al-Yawer and Adel Abdul Mahdi take the posts of Vice Presidents.

April 7, 2005 - Jalal Talabani is sworn in as Interim President of Iraq.
Ibrahim al-Jafaari is appointed by the Presidency Council the post of Prime Minister of Iraq in the Provisional Government.

April 28, 2005 - Prime minister Ibrahim al-Jafaari submits his list of cabinet members to vote to the parliament. The nominations are approved by the parliament but some positions (defence, oil, interior, finance, energy ministries) still remain unfilled.

May 4, 2005 - The new cabinet is partially sworn in, 6 minister posts are yet to be filled.

May 9, 2005 - The new cabinet is sworn in, one of the four deputy prime minister posts is still unfilled. Hashim Abdul-Rahman al-Shibli, nominated for the Human Rights Minister post, declines the post.
