Poverty is contingent on a seemingly endless list of variables. When we examine sitations and try to understand the quality of life, it is important to take these major concerns into mind. Poverty is not simply not having enough money, it is based on the standard of living. Clean water is necessary to stay hydrated, to cook, clean and bathe. Yet, China's water resources are being divided among such a large population that there simply isn't enough to go around. Many millions of people consume and use unclean water because they have no other choice. This water is often contaminated by natural and industrial chemicals, which poses a health risk for those who rely on it. With disease, comes heathcare that isn't available or can't be afforded, and without proper heathcare, life expectancy sinks. As China's economy transitions, heathcare becomes the increasing responsibility of the individual Education can be a way to escape the system of poverty, but free education is not a government program, and is often expensive. Pollution hurts agricultural communities, and makes it harder for everyone to live, from those residing in rural communities to urban slums. Overpopulation increases the amount of resources needed, and exacerbates the problem. The list goes on and on.
