-Ward Churchill, polticial activist and member of United Keetowah Band of Cherokee Indians The legal definition outlined in the 1948 United Nation convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide defines genocide as committing any of the following acts, with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, by killing members of the group; causing bodily or mental harm to the group; delibrately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; forcibly transfering children from the group to another group. – Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Article 2 [1] Based upon the above definition the Native American People have been engaged in a 300 year genocide that still continues today.
