Gender Studies 119 First Year Seminar |
This course will explore creating and critiquing public writing by women. It will examine the genres of the op-ed, political column, memoir, and broadcast commentary. The seminar will ask the questions: what constitutes a “women’s issue” in public discourse and how can women best influence public debate. Among the public writers we will read are MHC alumnae who write for newspapers, magazines and other media outlets. Students also will learn to write and submit for publication or broadcast op-eds and short radio commentaries. This course is writing-intensive.
