Neville, Age 15:
"Well
I'll start with my dad. He is in the army so it is quite hard for me
because
there are terrorist groups everywhere so i have to be careful about what
I
say and
who I say stuff to (stuff being my dad is in the army and a lot of
soldiers
have been killed by terrorist groups!!!). I'm a Protestant and there
are various
Protestant terrorist groups in my school, around the town,
basically
everywhere. I have to watch what I say to those people because they
wouldn't
just beat up Catholics they would beat up Protestants as well...
whenever
I lived in the army base in Ballymena the IRA (a Catholic
terrorist
group) put bomb threats on the camp and I, only being around the
age of
5 - 7, had to assemble in the army mess or outside where it was raining
or very
cold. This happened a few times. I don't think there will ever be
peace in
Northern Ireland because there will always be those few people who
don't like
Catholics or Protestants and they will always cause trouble. I'm
sure you've
heard of the 'Good Friday Agreement'... well I think it was a total
waste of
time and money because all it has done is let out almost all
terrorist
murders and assholes like that!!"
Steven, Age 14:
"The difference between our school trips and life outside of school is,
in school your religion doesn't matter everyone is equal, which I like.
But outside of school you're always on your guard, if you go into certain
areas in the town you could find yourself in a bit of trouble...Northern
Ireland isn't an ideal place to live, but everywhere has some problems.
Maybe I can show someone that children make a future and if the children
can reach across the divide we can show the adults the way to a better
future for everyone..."
