Athletes and Steroids

Rational behind using Anabolic Androgenous Steroids in competitive sports:

1. Anabolic effects resulting from the physiological increase in testosterone during pubertal development.

2. In comparison to women, men have a 30% greater lean body mass than women.

3. Production of anabolic and ergogenic (any substance, device, or treatment that can or is believed to improve athletic performance) effects by testosterone in hypogonadal patients.

4. Muscle bulk will increase and improve performance in eugonadal men with the use of supraphysiological doses of testosterone.

5. The assumption that anaboic effects can be separated from virilizing effects by using "pure anabolic" agents.
