Examples of anabolic androgenic steroids
Anabolic androgenic steroids are a type of drug that is closely related to testosterone, a natural male sex hormone, which promotes increased muscle mass, a characteristic of males. AAS was produced for anabolic benefit of eugonadal patients in the 1940s. AAS was administrated to these patients to promote increased mass after burns surgery, radiation therapy, and aging-related sarcopenia (muscle wasting). Recently, AAS has also been used to treat patients with wasting that have HIV. Now, steroid use has become widely popular amongst athletes and bodybuilders.
