Angel in Stained Glass
7 September 2005
The stray dogs are running, searching for meat.
The ghost town store fronts foul raging waters
that refuse to be quiet or to stop intruding.
Clinging to the rooftop, the Buddha waits,
one among many, indistinguishable,
reciting the same prayer again and again.
In the distance, face down in the water,
a man in overalls, white shirt,
arms outstretched, mirroring the crucifix,
abandoned to the spirits of the sea,
turns white like an angel in stained glass.
