About and Resources

The United Arab Emirates, home of Dubai Internet City, shopping festivals and the world's tallest hotel, is one of the most advanced, liberal countries in the Middle East. However, only about 20% of the country's 2,369,153 population is U.A.E. nationals, and the "local" women live under different rules (The World Factbook 2000).

This website will explore the image of the U.A.E. woman in the press and as different researches and statistics portray her, in contrast to the reality of her life. Many fake images are distributed, some for the better and some for the worse. This website strives to provide the facts about the United Arab Emirates woman--as she is, as she lives her life every day, and as she sees herself and the world. Facts will be cited. Names will be changed for the safety of the women who shared their lives and experiences.
