About and Resources

The U.A.E. government allows women to work. It also requires equal pay for equal work and does not disciminate between the sexes in this regard. However, families of U.A.E. women and the society of nationals or "locals" makes it hard for a woman to work and advance in her career.

The U.A.E. women who work usually do so because of necessity. If a woman's husband is unable to provide for the family, or if her father is deceased, she can find work in government outlets, such as public schools and hospitals, where she will only interact with other women.

Some women have their own businesses and property, but they seldom run them. Instead, a male relative conducts the business and interacts with other men and foreign women.

In the private sector, many women are engineers, sales people, journalists etc., but few of them are U.A.E. women. The U.A.E. women are limited to segregated environments where their husbands and male relatives are confident no honor breaches can occur.
