INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADDING A KYOCERA PRINTER – PC PLATFORM
To install the Kyocera printer, you will need to download printer drivers, add the printer, and then configure the printer properties. You can get the drivers at any time but you will need to wait until the Kyocera printer is installed in your department before you add and configure the printer.
Make sure you know your PRINTER NAME.
If you donŐt know the printer name or if you have problems with the install, please call the Help Desk at X2600.
Step 1 –GETTing the Kyocera Drivers
To do this you will need to MAP to the network server AMBR:
RIGHT CLICK on my Computer and choose MAP NETWORK DRIVE.
The Drive Letter will automatically choose a letter - it doesn't matter what letter.
In the area to the right of FOLDER type:
Click FINISH - no need to log on.
If a window did not open after mapping to \\ambr\kp
Double Click on My Computer
Double Click on kp on Samba
You should see three things:
A folder called 3900DN
A file called add_kprinter.bat
A file called printer_how_to.avi
Copy the folder 3900DN– Right Click on it and Select COPY from the menu.
Paste the folder to your desktop – Right Click on the desktop and select PASTE from the menu.
Step 2 - INSTALL THE PRINTER:
Go to the START menu and select SETTINGS and then slide to PRINTERS AND FAXES.
In PRINTER TASKS select ADD A PRINTER to use the ADD PRINT WIZARD
Select the option for a LOCAL printer attached to this computer.
Select CREATE A NEW PORT.
In the TYPE OF PORT select STANDARD TCP/IP Port.
Click NEXT again. You will enter the NAME of the PRINTER in the box.
If the printer is on and found, the Wizard will present a window with port information. It it is not on or connected to the network a dialogue box will advise you to turn it on.
Assuming it is on and that you used the correct printer name, you should get a new window prompting you to click FINISH.
Please wait a few seconds. The Wizard will ask you to install the Printer Software.
Normally you would select a Manufacturer and then a printer from the lists but this is a new printer so you need to install new drivers.
Click on HAVE DISK.
Click on BROWSE.
A widow will open called LOCATE FILE. At the top of the window you will see LOOK IN followed by a white box. Click on the arrow pointing DOWN in the blue box at the end so that you can scroll down and select the DESKTOP.
You should the items on your desktop. Select the 3900DN folder that you copied and OPEN.
In the FILE NAME you need to add OEMSETUP.INF. To do this, select it from the list in the 3900DN folder and click OPEN
You will be asked to insert the manucaturerŐs installation disk. Since you have it on your desktop and have selected it simply click OK.
You now must choose the kind of printer – select Kyocera FS-3900DN KX from the list.
Click on the NEXT button.
If prompted, select REPLACE EXISTING DRIVER – click NEXT.
The next dialogue box asks you for the name of the printer. Replace the KYOCERA FS-3900DN with your printer name. You will need to delete what is there and type the name.
If this is going to be your default printer – you can also select that option by clicking in the YES radio button.
When asked – you DO NOT SHARE THIS PRINTER.
You can print a test page if desired.
If prompted with a warning that the Software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing, etc. click on CONTINUE ANYWAY.
Copying Files will begin. When finished, the wizard will bring up the Optional Components Wizard. Click NEXT and select all three options by checking in each box.
You may select or not any of the COMMON PROFILES in the next dialog box. These are preset templates that you may wish to use at a later time when you are more familiar with the printer and its many features.
The same option is available for a Watermark – click in the box if you wish to install the plug-in.
NOTE – these options can always be added at a later time.
A dialog box with CONFIRM SETTINGS appears. Click on INSTALL unless you want to GO BACK to add options.
Click on FINISH and when returned to your Printers and Faxes window you should see an icon for the printer with the name that you just added. You are now ready to configure the printer properties.
Step 3 - CONFIGURE YOUR PRINTER PROPERTIES:
If you are not in your PRINTERS AND FAXES WINDOW go to START and SETTINGS to PRINTERS AND FAXES to open it.
Right Click on the printer name you just added.
Choose the DEVICE SETTINGS tab.
There are a number of features you can configure. The easiest way to do this is to click on the AUTO CONFIGURE button located below the printer features. This option looks at your printer and adjusts the settings to match what is available.
After clicking this option you will get a dialogue box that your computer is contacting the printer. When finished, youŐll see that it has automatically checked the Paper Feeder (casette 2). Other options that you canŐt see on this screen have also been set.
You are finished.
Step 4 - SET THIS PRINTER AS YOUR DEFAULT – if you did not do this when adding:
Right Click on the printer name you just added
Choose SET AS DEFAULT PRINTER
Congratulations - you are now ready to use the new printer.
In the PRINT Window, click on the PROPERTIES BUTTON
In the lower, left hand corner you can select PRINT ON BOTH SIDES
