Barisan Nasional (National Front Coalition)
It is a coaltion of three parties – the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), and the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC). It is the ruling political party of Malaysia since independence as even though it was formed in 1973, it is the replacement of the Alliance Party (Parti Perikatan).

United Malays National Organization (UMNO)
Formed in 1946, it is Malaysia’s largest political party. Its membership is open to ethnic Malays.

Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA)
Formed in 1949 to prevent the Chinese community in Malaya from being sent back to China. Its membership is open to ethnic Chinese.

Formed in 1946, its membership is open to ethnic Indians.

Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS)
It is an Islamist political party founded in 1956, and currently part of the Pakatan Rakyat Coalition (People’s Alliance) which is the opposition, alongside Parti Keadilan (People’s Justice Party) and Democratic Action Party (DAP).

Democratic Action Party (DAP)
It is a multi-racial party founded in 1965, and currently part of the Pakatan Rakyat Coalition (People’s Alliance) which is the opposition, alongside Parti Keadilan (People’s Justice Party) and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS).

It is founded in 1999 and currently part of the Pakatan Rakyat Coalition (People’s Alliance) which is the opposition, alongside Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS).
