Nancy Button Nathan ’68, renowned lawyer, political reporter, news editor, and broadcast journalist, is the executive producer of The Chris Matthews Show, NBC’s Sunday morning journalists’ roundtable.
During her 25 years with NBC, she has been executive producer of Meet the Press, and chief Washington producer for Today, overseeing editorial coverage, public policy, and politics. She was also principal producer for Today special coverage including the 1988 Moscow summit, the 1992 and 1996 national political conventions, presidential elections, and inaugurations.
Having begun her journalism career with CBS as politics producer for the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour, she was the recipient of the National Magazine Award by the American Society of Magazine Editors and the Columbia School of Journalism for her investigative reporting on military reform. For her coverage of the 1986 Challenger explosion, she received an Emmy nomination.
Nathan holds a J.D. degree from St. Louis University School of Law and a master’s in journalism and public affairs from American University, where she was named outstanding graduate in broadcast journalism. Early in her career, she was attorney for the Federal Election Commission and lawyer/editor of a newsletter on law and public policy for the U. S. Catholic Conference. She is a member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and a past member of the Mount Holyoke College Board of Trustees.
