The short films here include contemporary interviews with alumnae as well as vintage footage that captures intellectual and extracurricular life at Mount Holyoke from the 1920s to the 1960s—everything from renowned chemist Lucy Pickett doing research with students; to canoe races, skiing, and ice skating; to Prom Weekend and the May Day Pageant; to zoology field research in the 1930s; to students working in a Victory Garden during World War II. And, of course, there’s the Laurel Parade and Mountain Day fun (and fashions) through the years.
Many of these films are of the “home movie” variety; some were professionally produced for promotional or fundraising purposes. Special thanks to the Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections for making these archival films available.
