James Hartley, Interim Director of Complementary Program Development (CPD), has been a Professor of Economics at Mount Holyoke since 1994. He earned his B.A., M.A, and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Davis. He has been chair of the Economics department and Director of First Year Seminars. In 2001, he spent six months as a Fulbright Fellow in Kolkata, India, being housed at the Indian Statistical Institute. In 2006, he returned to India to consult and teach at the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, the oldest business school in India. On that second trip, he also lectured throughout in Northeastern India in events organized by the US Consulate to audiences ranging from college students to business professional groups. In 2008, he edited the volume Mary Lyon: Documents and Writings, which was the first time the writings of Mary Lyon had ever been collected and published. He is also the author of The Representative Agent in Macroeconomics and co-editor of Real Business Cycles: A Reader.
