Asian studies students who are looking for funding to study abroad (either during the summer or academic year) are encouraged to investigate the list of Outside Scholarships maintained by the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives. Students applying for semester or year study abroad who are eligible for need-based financial aid at Mount Holyoke should also apply for MHC’s own Laurel Fellowships.
Outside awards for semester, year, and summer study abroad include:
- Freeman-ASIA Scholarships for semester or summer study abroad in East or Southeast Asia, open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
- Benjamin A. Gilman Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarships for semester or summer study abroad, open to U.S. citizen and nationals. Students studying critical needs languages (including Arabic, Chinese, and Korean) may qualify for additional awards.
- Bridging Scholarships for semester or year study in Japan, open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
- U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship Program for summer intensive language study of critical need languages, including Arabic, Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Chinese, Korean, Persian, and Russian. Open to U.S. students.
