Data Science is an emerging discipline that integrates computational and statistical reasoning with applications across a broad range of domain areas. The major emphasizes how to be effective, ethical, and judicious consumers of data while offering rigorous training in statistics and computer science to prepare students communicate data concepts and outcomes.
The Data Science Major
The major in data science is designed as a liberal arts major that can bring the power of data analysis to any discipline. The data science major consists of 40 credits, including courses in math, statistics, computer science and a student’s chosen domain area. For details about required courses, please see the data science major section of the catalog.
Our program offers solid preparation for independent research leading to an honors thesis, graduate study and work in data science.
Students from prior catalog years should be directed to the catalog archives.
