Amanda came to Mount Holyoke from Zimbabwe as a recruit for the varsity squash team. She is a double major in French and economics. It was in her junior year that she decided to become a French major. Previously, she had not aspired to learning languages until she interacted with members of the French department at Mount Holyoke, particularly her conversation lab teaching assistants during her first and second year. “This department gave me my first real taste of French culture, and since then I have never looked back” says Amanda. She spent her junior year abroad in Montpellier, which was a life changing experience for her, and she is moving to Paris after graduation with the intention of pursuing a career in international finance.
