Hands-on Research

“The geoscience community provides the knowledge, experience, and ingenuity to meet society’s demands for natural resources, environmental quality, and resilience from hazards.” –American Geological Institute, 2009

The Department of Geology and Geography strives to provide our students with excellent educational opportunities, from our strong curriculum to our laboratory facilities and collections

Summer opportunities generally require planning well in advance. Fall semester is not too early to begin exploring summer options. Students are encouraged to explore independent research and summer research possibilities with our faculty.

Research Funding

The Department has modest resources available to support student research and travel. These funds have been used to support student attendance and participation at professional meetings, travel and other costs associated with independent research projects, and small awards for participating in summer field courses. The deadline for this funding is rolling. More details are available in the main office for geology and geography, and students should consult with their G & G advisor.
