For Parents

The Gorse Children’s Center offers many options for families, including our two-and-a-half hour preschool and kindergarten classes, our full- and part-day infant, toddler, and preschool classes, and our after-school and summer programs.

Children who attend the Gorse Children's Center come from South Hadley, Granby, Belchertown, Chicopee, Holyoke and other surrounding communities. No College affiliation is required for enrollment.

The center is affiliated with the Department of Psychology and Education at Mount Holyoke College. We are located on the edge of the beautiful campus grounds and have access to the resources of the college for field trips and classroom activities, including the art museum, horse barn, greenhouse, and dance studio.

Child Study Preschool and Kindergarten Programs

The Gorse Child Study Program at the Gorse Children’s Center serves young children, ages 2.9 to 6, in a planned but flexible learning environment. We offer four half-day programs: three preschool groups (two in the morning and one in the afternoon) and an afternoon kindergarten. Class sizes are between twelve and sixteen children. We follow the academic calendar of Mount Holyoke College. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Full-Day Programs

Our full-day programs offer full-day care (6-9 hours) and part-day options (up to 6 hours) for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, plus an after-school program for kindergarten through third grade. The environments are thoughtfully planned, yet flexible. The full-day classes function year round, with summer programs as well. Class sizes are appropriate for the ages of the children, and follow Department of Early Education and Care guidelines.
