Double major in Italian and English Literature
I study Italian because I am interested in how this literary tradition shaped and contributed to the structural and artistical development of English literature. Being able to express myself in two languages helps me to express my opinions and feelings precisely. Italian fills a space in me that the English language cannot. I love words and I love to collect words. It is a beautiful thing to look at a puddle, for example, and realize that the word for puddle never satisfied me completely while the Italian word for puddle? pozzanghera? is exactly how a puddle should be called. Overall, I admire the abstraction of language and my experience with Italian has roused my curiosity concerning the connections between language learning, culture, and personal memory.
