In addition to small courses, enhanced advising and interactive activities, we take a holistic approach to teaching and learning Italian through community and peer relationships.
The Living Learning Communities Italian Language Floor provide opportunities for students who share common educational, social or co-curricular interests to live together in residence halls. Our Italian language LLC is a community of students dedicated to improving their Italian language skills and exploring cultures in the Italian-speaking world. Community members are exposed to Italian language and culture through events and activities that take place both in and outside of the residence hall. A language assistant lives on the floor to create a vital link with the cosponsoring department.
Other opportunities and sources of language support include:
- Peer mentoring with the Italian Language Mentor and Language Assistants occurs during weekly Q&A sessions and an Italian table provides a welcoming environment for spontaneous expression and cultural exchange.
- The Language Resource Center contains many other useful language resources.
- Five College Italian Language Departments include Smith College, UMass-Amherst and Mount Holyoke College.
In addition, ongoing extracurricular activities of the Italian club, lectures, and films round out the multifaceted learning experience at MHC.
