Change in Film Soundtrack Recording Date

I wanted to let you know as soon as possible that we've just moved back the recording dates for the film score. It will now be recorded on Mar 26 + 28, again a Tuesday and Thursday. This will occur during normal rehearsal times, except that the Thursday session will be from 4.30 - 6.40pm.
Good news is that this gives us all a breather after the Feb 10 concert. And that we will end at our usual time of 6pm on Valentine's Feb 14. We will of course remind everyone closer to the date.

The orchestra just completed its first successful tour. With performances in Hartford, CT and South Hadley, MA. Now its full steam ahead as we prepare for our performance on Feb 10 2013 for our Midwinter Dreams performance in Chapin Auditorium at 3pm!
New Orchestra Mission Statement

For the first time in our history, the orchestra now has a mission statement crafted by its current members. The new mission statement, listed below has now been posted onto the "About" page on this site.
"The Mount Holyoke Symphony Orchestra is a fun, passionate, diverse, and welcoming community of musicians dedicated to performing a variety of musical genres through unique concert experiences in the community and beyond."

July 10 2012 MHSO Director Ng Tian Hui is a Fellow at the Oregon Bach Festival Discovery Series
Ng Tian Hui will be conducting the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra and the Berwick Festival Chorus in performances featuring excerpts from Bach's St Matthew's Passion at this year's Festival.

At the Orchestra's Annual Dinner tonight, the outgoing Board led by Emma Loy-Sentelli '12 handed over the 'reins' of the orchestra to new president and concert mistress Gabby Snyder '13.
April 20 2012 Congratulations to the Winners of the First MHSO Concerto Competition
The MHSO is delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural concerto competition here at Mount Holyoke. They are: soprano, Britney Harris ' 14, flautist, Ariel Hayat '15 and pianist, Phoebe Sun '13. These three winners will have the opportunity to solo with the orchestra in the coming concert season of 2012 - 2013.
February 20 2012 First MHSO Concerto Competition Announced
The MHSO has just launched the first edition of the Concerto Competition here at Mount Holyoke College. Sponsored by the Music Department, the event will feature up to three external judges, and students accompanied by faculty at the department. The winner(s) of the competition will have the opportunity to be a featured Solo Artist in the Orchestra's 2012-13 Season. January 30 2012 MHSO Director to Conduct at Transient Glory Festival
Tian Hui Ng, MHC’s director of orchestral activities, has been selected as one of eight conductors nationwide to participate in the Transient Glory Symposiumpresented by the Carnegie Hall Choral Institute and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, scheduled for February 15-18 in New York City. At the symposium Ng will work with Joan Tower, a performer, conductor, educator, and composer, on "Can I," which she composed during her 70th birthday celebrations. Ng will conduct "Can I" twice in Transient Glory Symposium concerts on Friday, February 17, at the 92nd Street Y, and again on Saturday, February 18, at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall.
