This event is being planned for the course - The Spirituals and The Blues (Rel 230). The Black Gospels could be understood as the "urban spirituals" and are derived from the Black religious experience in America. Funteller Jackson - a distinguished interpreter of these songs - is a Mount Holyoke Alum.
