Selecting Courses

Mount Holyoke’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers a wide range of sociology courses, including the development of social thought, survey research and data analysis, and social problems and theory. Majors begin with 123, Introduction to Sociology. Special topics courses at the 300 level vary; recent topics have included the death penalty, sociology of education, and collective behavior and social movements.

First-Year Students

The department strongly suggests that first-year students take Introduction to Sociology (SOCI 123) before enrolling in 200 and 300 level courses.
