The Spanish Language Floor Living Learning Community

Spanish Floor

The Spanish language floor is a Living Learning Community created for students who wish to enhance their linguistic and cultural proficiency through daily intensive contact with the language and culture from different Spanish-speaking communities. It houses students from all class years with Spanish majors and minors, students who have studied or are in the process of applying to study abroad in Spanish-speaking countries, native and heritage speakers, as well as students with some previous experience in the language.

A shared goal is the commitment to become fluent in Spanish. Some of the activities, aimed at facilitating exposure and contact, include movie and game nights, cooking workshops, cultural workshops, and cultural celebrations. The Spanish Language Floor is currently located in Mandelle Hall. Students interested in applying to live on the Spanish floor must contact the Office of Residential Life.

Hola! My name is Dannye and I am a senior from Norman, Oklahoma. I am studying politics and Spanish, and I was able to study abroad and intern in Costa Rica for five months! This year I have been able to continue my studies in Spanish and Latin American cultures, as well as work as a LA on the Spanish Floor! I hope to use my studies (and hopefully a law degree after graduating from Mount Holyoke) to help underserved communities in the Southwestern United States. I can’t wait to get to know you all and practice our language skills!

Hola a todxs! My name is Lauren Fuller and I am a member of the class of 2022 at MHC! I am a first generation student from Philadelphia(ish) and a History and Politics double major! While I do not intend to pursue a major or minor in Spanish, I have been studying it for six years and plan on studying Spanish for as long as I can! As the Spanish Language Assistant for the Spanish floor in Mandelle Hall, I will be working with Dannye to cultivate a strong Spanish-learning/speaking community in our building! In addition to my work on the floor, I am also the Chair of Halls for the Student Government Association on campus and I work for the Office of Student Involvement!
