Confidentiality and Release of Information

Records provided to AccessAbility Services that pertain to a person's disability are designated as confidential records and are not subject to disclosure outside of the AccessAbility Services department, except in accordance with applicable law.  These records are secured in AccessAbility Services. Only the AccessAbility Services staff, including the Dean of Student Affairs who oversees AccessAbility Services, has access to student disability files.

Records pertaining to a student's disability will not be released to anyone without that student's written consent, except as may be required by law. There are certain unusual circumstances which may permit exceptions to the rules of disclosure. They include: a) a medical emergency; b) a situation that presents a direct threat to the health and safety of the student or others; c) a situation involving a discrimination complaint or legal action.

If a student authorizes disclosure of information pertaining to a disability, that authorization may be revoked at any time by providing written notification to the Director of AccessAbility Services.
