ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS


2016-2017

  • Conducted “Aware Today, Alive Tomorrow) held as part of extended New Student Orientation on September 8, 2016


2015-2016

  • Conducted “Aware Today, Alive Tomorrow” (new name for this event) for extended New Student Orientation held September 10, 2016

  • Presented “Rethinking Your Drinking” (Aware Today, Alive Tomorrow event) held as part of Spring Orientation on January 15, 2016.

  • Created and conducted Marijuana Education Poster Campaign conducted prior to talk by Harvard Professor Jodi Gilman entitled “What We Know and Don’t Know About Marijuana” on March 30, 2016 in collaboration with the South Hadley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition


2014-2015

  • Presented “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” event for extended New Student Orientation held September 4, 2014

  • Presented “Dance More, Drink Less” Flash Mob focused on the risks of pre-gaming held November 23, 2014 at Community M&C’s and December 5, 2014 at lunch time in Blanchard Great Room

  • Conducted Great American Smoke-Out interactive table held in Blanchard Campus Center on November 20, 2014

  • Conducted National Drug Facts Week interactive tabling about prescription drug use held in Blanchard Campus Center January 27, 2015

  • Presented the documentary film “The Hungry Heart” produced and directed by Bess O’Brien ’81 MHC Alumnae focused on prescription drug addiction on March 25, 2016 done in conjunction with the South Hadley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition.


2013-2014

  • Created new educational campaign focused on “pre-gaming” and risky drinking called “Dance More, Drink Less” to launch in Fall 2014

  • Planning to again host “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” for September 4, 2014


2012-2013

  • Created and organized “You Are Not Alone: Stories of Substance” multimedia Art Exhibit displayed March 4-8th which focused on the continuum of use of alcohol and other drugs.

  • Created and organized the “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” event to promote safe driving with Campus Police. Participants were able to drive a golf cart with fatal vision goggles simulating driving under the influence.

2011-2012

  • Supported alcohol-free “Cafe Night” at the Thirsty Mind during Las Vegas Night

  • Red Ribbon Campaign (drinking and driving awareness)—ribbons sent to all departments on campus and made available in Hooker Auditorium for pick up to put on cars

  • Spring Weekend alcohol free event, Sunset & Smores was hosted by ADAC and student organization SAAFE


2010-2011

  • Supported alcohol-free “Cafe Night” at the Thirsty Mind during Las Vegas Night

  • Assisted with development of the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project faculty/staff brochure entitled, “Guide for Supporting and Referring Students with Substance Abuse Problems”

  • Sponsored “Take the Pledge” drinking and driving awareness campaign to encourage everyone to drive sober during the holiday season

  • Created new drinking and driving awareness campaign called “Where’s the Line”, which included a 3-part poster series and educational event for Spring Weekend Carnival

  • Created “How to Enhance Your Performance During Exams” pledge campaign that encouraged healthy choices and avoiding use of prescription drugs

2009-2010

  • Supported alcohol-free Las Vegas Night event

  • Created new drinking and driving awareness campaign called “Take the Pledge” with students, staff & faculty signing key cards and posting in Blanchard Campus Center

  • Created the “Not So Uncommon” awareness campaign, which focused on the statistics of how many MHC students might have an alcohol abuse problem and/or those impacted by a family members’ alcohol use. Post cards were distributed widely on campus and a large poster was displayed in Blanchard Campus Center


2008-2009

  • Participated in Amethyst Initiative on campus discussion

  • Support of alcohol-free Las Vegas Night alternative event, “Rolling for Sisters” sponsored by student organization SAAFE(Substance Abuse Awareness for Everyone)

  • Red Ribbon Campaign (drinking and driving awareness) with table tents with personal stories from MADD (12/9/09)

  • Presentation to Dean of College about Alcohol and Drug Awareness Committee and its role on campus


2007-2008

  • Support of alcohol-free Las Vegas Night alternative event, “Rolling for Sisters” sponsored by student organization SAAFE(Substance Abuse Awareness for Everyone)

  • Red Ribbon Campaign (drinking and driving awareness) (12/04)

  • Prescription Drug  Awareness Campaign (April)


2006-2007

  • Support of alcohol-free Las Vegas Night alternative event called “Rolling for Sisters” sponsored by student organization SAAFE(Substance Abuse Awareness for Everyone)

  • Red Ribbon Campaign (drinking and driving awareness) (12/06)

  • Support of “Last Call: A Sobering Look at Alcohol Abuse” performance by Bill Ross for student athletes (3/6/07)

  • Creation of masks based on the poem “Please Hear What I am Not Saying” focused on adult children of alcoholics

  • The MAZE – the experiential journey for Adult Children of Alcoholics (4/23/07 – 4/27/07)


2005-2006

  • Co-sponsored The Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project Alumnae adult children of alcoholics panel (10/7/05)

  • Red Ribbon Campaign (drinking and driving awareness) (12/05)

  • Participation in Campus Las Vegas Night Planning Committee

  • The MAZE (an experiential path on Skinner Green) that highlighted the stories and experiences of adult children of alcoholics (4/17/06 - 4/20/06)
