Maxine Getz, Class of 2013 is an Africana Studies major and an English minor who is writing a thesis on history teaching in South Africa in the context of the political transition. Maxine spent the spring of 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa on a study abroad program and returned in January of 2013 for additional thesis research. On campus, Maxine is involved with the Food Justice Society and the Mount Holyoke News. Maxine’s interest in food (as well as kids and being outdoors) can also be found in her various internship choices – she has been a research assistant for the Food Network show Iron Chef America, worked as a Farm Educator at The Fresh Air Fund’s Sharpe Reservation, and this past summer worked as an instructor at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
