How to Search Collections

Honors Papers and Theses, most rare books, many manuscript collections, and some College records in Archives & Special Collections are described in a variety of online indexes, catalogs, and databases.  To search these finding aids, follow these steps:

To Search the Five College Online Library Catalog

  • Click on the Advanced search tab
  • Enter keywords to define your search
  • In the Location box, select MH Archives & Special Collections. Limiting a search to a year or range of years, a language, and a form of material will further refine your search
  • Click on Go button

To Search the Five College Finding Aids Database through the Archives & Special Collections website:

  • Click on Manuscript Collections link
  • Click on finding aids link
  • In upper right corner, click on search
  • Click on Advanced Search
  • Enter or select names, subjects, and phrases in search boxes
  • Limit by Institution to Mount Holyoke College
  • Hit GO! button

To Search for a List and Descriptions of College Records through the Archives & Special Collections website:

  • Click on College Records Link
  • Click on RG 1 to expand list
  • Search for records as needed, following links to online descriptions of some of these materials.

Please note that many College Records are not yet described on line. For information about these materials, contact us.

To Search for Digitized Materials in the Digital Resources Database through the Archives & Special Collections website:

  • Click on the Digital Resources link
  • Under Digitized Collections, click on names of particular collections
  • To search for other materials, enter search terms in keyword box and hit Go button
  • To refine your search, click on the More search options link
  • Under Search, enter desired search term(s) in box(es)
  • Under Select specific collection, hit clear all button, then click on box in front of Archival Digital Image Database
